What exactly is a mechanic?
Date mecharie refers to decorative items made from preserved, or stabilised, moss. Preservation is a special process in which living moss is treated with natural substances, most commonly glycerine and organic dyes, so that it retains its natural texture, flexibility and colour for many years.
Unlike dried moss, which is brittle and loses its freshness, preserved moss remains soft and natural to the touch. It requires no watering, special lighting or any particular care. It simply exists, and looks beautiful.
Mechanical rooms are produced in various formats: moss pictures on a wooden or metal substrate, moss walls as large-format installations for offices and restaurants, or moss terrariums in glass containers.
How is moss conservation carried out?
Conservation begins with the careful selection and collection of live moss from nature. The moss is then thoroughly cleaned and freed from impurities. A key step is immersion in a conservation bath—a mixture of glycerine, water and natural dyes. Glycerine replaces the water in the moss cells, keeping the cell wall structure flexible and firm.
The entire process takes several days to weeks depending on the type of moss. The result is material that looks alive but requires no light or watering and remains in good condition. 5 to 10 years without any maintenance.

Preserved moss naturally regulates indoor humidity. At low humidity levels it releases moisture into the space; at high levels it absorbs it, acting as natural air conditioning on a micro level.
Types of moss used in moss air conditioners
Not every moss is suitable for making moss decorations. Each species has different properties, texture and appearance, so various types are combined to achieve an interesting visual effect.
Flat moss
Also known as sheet or carpet moss. It forms a flat, dense surface resembling a velvet carpet. Ideal as a base for moss pictures and large-scale installations.
Forest moss
Bumpy, structured moss with a pronounced texture. Creates a three-dimensional effect and adds depth and vibrancy to moss arrangements. Ideal for terrariums and decorative compositions.
Reindeer moss
In reality, this is a lichen (Cladonia rangiferina), not true moss. It has a distinctly branched structure and is available in many colours, green, white, grey and red. Very popular for contrast effects.
Ball moss
Spherical and hemispherical moss forms that add plasticity and playfulness. Excellent as an accent element in moss art pieces and terrariums.
Why do mechanics not require a coolant top-up?
Live moss acts like a sponge, absorbing water from the surrounding environment and atmospheric humidity. After conservation with glycerine, the moss cells are "locked" in an optimally hydrated state. Glycerine is a hygroscopic substance, meaning it naturally attracts and retains moisture from the air, just like live moss, but without the need for direct watering.
The only things preserved moss fears are direct sunlight (which causes colours to fade) and excessive moisture combined with low air circulation. Under normal indoor conditions, it is completely low-maintenance.
